Your data security and privacy are important to us. This article answers common questions about how Farline protects your information.

Data Storage and Security

Where is my project data stored?

Your projects are stored in:

  • Database: Secure cloud database (PostgreSQL)
  • Location: Cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest
  • Backups: Automated daily backups for disaster recovery

Browser storage: Some temporary data (UI preferences, cache) stored locally in your browser

Is my data encrypted?

Yes, on multiple levels:

In transit (HTTPS):

  • All data between your browser and Farline servers uses TLS 1.3 encryption
  • Modern, industry-standard security protocol
  • Protects against eavesdropping and tampering

At rest:

  • Database encryption enabled
  • Project data encrypted when stored
  • Backup encryption for disaster recovery

Authentication:

  • Passwords never stored by Farline
  • Authentication handled by Clerk (SOC 2 Type II certified)
  • Secure token-based access

Who can see my projects?

Access control:

  • You: Full access to projects you create
  • Your organization: If using team/org features (when available)
  • Farline team: Only for support purposes, with your permission
  • No one else: Projects are private by default

AI models:

  • Your project data is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API for AI features
  • Anthropic’s data policy: Not used for training models
  • See “AI and Data Processing” section below

Can Farline employees see my data?

Support access only:

  • Farline employees can access your data only for support purposes
  • Requires your explicit consent
  • Access is logged and audited
  • Used solely to resolve technical issues you report

No routine access:

  • No one browses your projects for any reason
  • No marketing analysis of project content
  • No selling data to third parties

AI and Data Processing

What data is sent to AI providers?

When using AI chat features, we send:

  • Your chat messages
  • Current project YAML
  • Conversation history in the session

Not sent:

  • Your email address or personal information
  • Other projects you’ve created
  • Account details

How does Anthropic use my data?

Anthropic Claude API:

  • Processes your prompts to generate responses
  • Does not use your data to train their models
  • Does not retain your data after processing (per Anthropic’s policy)
  • See Anthropic’s commercial terms 

Commitment:

  • Your project data is your intellectual property
  • We don’t claim any rights to your project plans

Can I use Farline without AI features?

Currently: AI chat is core to the Farline experience

Alternative: You can write YAML directly without using AI chat

  • Edit YAML manually in the editor
  • Charts will still generate
  • Forecasts still calculated

No AI data sent when editing YAML directly without chat

Account and Authentication

How is my account secured?

Authentication provider: Clerk

  • Industry-leading authentication service
  • SOC 2 Type II certified
  • GDPR and CCPA compliant

Security features:

  • Password strength requirements
  • Email verification
  • Secure session management
  • Automatic session expiration

Your responsibilities:

  • Use a strong, unique password
  • Don’t share your account credentials
  • Sign out on shared computers
  • Enable 2FA when available (coming soon)

What happens if I forget my password?

  1. Click “Forgot Password” on sign-in page
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Receive password reset link
  4. Create new password

Security note: We can’t “recover” your password because we don’t store it

Can I delete my account?

Yes, you can:

  • Contact support@farline.ai to request account deletion
  • We’ll delete your account and associated data
  • Backups are purged within 30 days

Before deletion:

  • Export your projects (you won’t be able to access them after)
  • Download any data you want to keep

Data Privacy

What information do you collect?

Account information:

  • Email address (for sign-in)
  • Name (optional, for display)
  • Authentication tokens

Usage data:

  • Page views and feature usage (anonymized analytics)
  • Error logs (for debugging)
  • Performance metrics

Project data:

  • YAML project definitions
  • Chat conversation history
  • Session metadata (creation date, last modified, etc.)

Do you sell my data to third parties?

No, never.

We don’t:

  • Sell your personal information
  • Sell your project data
  • Share data with advertisers
  • Use your data for marketing purposes beyond our own service

Is Farline GDPR compliant?

Yes, we comply with GDPR principles:

  • Right to access: Request copy of your data
  • Right to rectification: Correct inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure: Delete your account and data
  • Right to portability: Export your data (via session export)
  • Right to object: Object to data processing

  • Know what data we collect

Data Retention

How long do you keep my data?

Active accounts:

  • Project data retained as long as account is active
  • No automatic deletion of projects

Inactive accounts:

  • Accounts inactive for 2+ years may be flagged for deletion
  • We’ll email before deleting
  • You can reactivate to prevent deletion

Deleted accounts:

  • Data deleted immediately upon request
  • Backups purged within 30 days
  • Some anonymized analytics may be retained

What happens if I stop using Farline?

Your data remains accessible:

  • Sign in anytime to access projects
  • No expiration of free accounts
  • Export your data before leaving if desired

Recommendation: Export projects periodically as personal backup

What security standards does Farline follow?

What if there’s a data breach?

Our commitment:

What third parties have access to my data?

Data Export and Portability

Can I export my data?

Yes, easily:

  1. Single project: Menu → Export Session (ZIP)
  2. All projects: Menu → Export All Sessions (JSON)

Formats provided:

  • ZIP: Project YAML + chat history
  • JSON: All projects and metadata

What you get:

  • Complete project definitions (YAML)
  • Chat conversation history
  • Session metadata
  • Ready to import elsewhere or archive

Can I migrate to a different tool?

Yes:

  • Export your projects as YAML
  • YAML is a standard, portable format
  • Use in other tools or convert as needed

No vendor lock-in: Your data is yours

Children’s Privacy

Is Farline suitable for children?

Age requirement: 13 years or older

COPPA compliance:

  • We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13
  • If we discover underage account, we’ll delete it
  • Parents: Contact us if you believe your child has an account

Best Practices for Users

Protecting Your Account

  1. Use a strong password

    • 12+ characters
    • Mix of letters, numbers, symbols
    • Unique to Farline

  2. Don’t share credentials

    • Keep password private
    • Don’t share login with teammates (use separate accounts)

  3. Sign out on shared devices

    • Prevents unauthorized access
    • Especially on public computers

  4. Export backups regularly

    • Personal copy of your data
    • Protection against accidental deletion

Protecting Your Data

  1. Don’t include sensitive information in projects

    • Avoid PII (names, emails, SSNs)
    • Avoid confidential business data if concerned
    • Use generic descriptions

  2. Be cautious with exports

    • ZIP/JSON files contain all your data
    • Store securely
    • Don’t share publicly

  3. Review sharing settings

    • When team features launch, verify who has access
    • Only share with trusted collaborators
